Ingesting sand can lead to sand impaction, a medical condition where part of the intestines are blocked. Vomiting, loss of appetite, and lethargy are the most common side effect of sand impaction. Additionally, since beaches are a shared public resources, the sand your dogs takes from the beach can have an impact. In many state and federal beaches the removal of natural features, including sand, is a felony.
